Tiệm ăn Ba Đời

I stopped by Tiệm Ăn Ba Đời for lunch after a family member recommended me to try their cơm tấm (broken rice). Our group ordered their signature dish which is the Cơm Tấm Ðặc Biệt. It came with broken rice, bì (shredded pork and pork skin), thịt khìa (braised pork), trứng khìa (braised egg), and chả (steamed egg meatloaf). It was different than your typical cơm tấm which has the grilled pork chop and I felt like the braised pork and egg was really tasty and unique to the Long Xuyên region. The dish also came with scallion oil and pickled vegetables which included carrot, daikon, and rau muống! The rau muống is not something that most restaurants include so this was a pleasant surprise. We also ordered the Bún Thịt Xào (rice vermicelli with stir fried pork) that also came with pickled vegetables, bean sprouts, peanuts, and fresh mints and lettuce. This was the perfect dish for a hot day. Lastly onto the other perks: free iced tea when you dine in, no extra charge for more rice, and the inside has air conditioner! Everything was also well-seasoned and not too salty, as well as well-proportioned for a great price! The service was also really good and the food came out quickly. Owners are very kind and hardworking as they are a local, family-run business. In Ho Chi Minh City where there are countless cơm tấm restaurants (and honestly restaurants in general), it can feel overwhelming trying to find a place that offers quality, stand-out food for an affordable price. I recommend everyone check out this humble restaurant, especially if you are a traveller visiting Vietnam and wanting to try authentic Vietnamese cuisine on a budget.
